§ MR. NAGHTENasked the Secretary of State for War, If he has taken into consideration the defective state of the Law with regard to the punishment of the receivers of regimental necessaries from soldiers, with a view to its amendment?
MR. GATHORNE HARDY, in reply, said, the law relating to receivers of stolen property was the same whether the property stolen consisted of regimental necessaries or other articles. He was not aware that the general law on the subject required amendment; but as difficulty no doubt arose from the fact that soldiers had power legally to dispose of certain things which formed part of their equipment, the matter was under the consideration of the authorities at the War Office, and he trusted some improvement would be effected.
