SIR MICHAEL HICKS-BEACH,

in reply, said, that from its expensive character, and on account of the time necessary to obtain it, he was sorry he could not give all the information desired by the hon. Member; but, as regarded the amount earned by National School teachers of all classes in Ireland, he might state that for the financial year, information was given upon the subject in the Reports already presented to the House by the Commissioners of National Education. For the financial year 1872–3, the amount paid for results fees to National School teachers was £76,028; for the financial year 1873–4, the amount was £101,620; and he believed that for the financial year 1874–5, it would be about £118,000.
