PEMBERTONsaid, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether, inasmuch as Christmas Day this year falls on Sunday, the Government will bring in a short Bill to authorize the closing of the Bank of England and other Banks on the day before or the day after Christmas Day, and thus insure a holiday to the numerous persons employed in such establishments?
MR. BRUCE, in reply, said, he regretted very much that clerks and others would lose the holiday to which they were accustomed; but he did not think it would be consistent with the public convenience that he should bring in a Bill for the purpose referred to at that period of the Session.
