HC Deb 11 June 1866 vol 184 cc208-9

(Mr. Childers, Mr. Chichester Fortescue, The Attorney General for Ireland.)

SECOND READING.

Order for Second Reading read.

MR. CHILDERS

moved that the Order be discharged, stating that it was not the intention of the Government to proceed with the Bill this Session, but to appoint a Commission to make minute inquiry into the subject on the spot, with a view to legislate next Session.

GENERAL DUNNE

asked, whether the Commission was to have power to inquire into the legal rights involved in the question?

MR. CHILDERS

The object of the Commission is simply to inquire as to what legislation may be desirable.

Order discharged: Bill withdrawn.
