HC Deb 26 July 1866 vol 184 c1532
MR. OSBORNE

said, he rose to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland, If Her Majesty's Government intended to bring in a Bill for the further suspension of the Habeas Corpus in Ireland; and, if such be the case, whether they will take into consideration the convenience of Irish Members by naming an early day for its introduction?

LORD NAAS

replied, that he was sorry to have to state that it would be the duty of the Government to propose to Parliament a Bill for the further suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act in Ireland for a limited period; and he begged to assure the hon. Gentleman that it was the wish of Her Majesty's Government to introduce that Bill on as early a day as possible, consistently with the requirements of the other business before the House, and that the convenience of the Irish Members would be consulted in the matter.
