MR. H. DRUMMONDsaid, that the right hon. Gentleman (the Chancellor of the Exchequer) had replied last night to a question put by the hon. Member for Montrose, relative to such Excise regulations as had a vexatious character in respect to certain articles. He wished to know whether that reply was intended to apply also to the article of malt?
§ The CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUERcertainly understood the question of the hon. Member for Montrose to apply more particularly to Excise regulations on malt and spirits. With respect to malt, the attention of the Government and the Excise Board had been directed to the subject, and he hoped to be able to introduce a measure for the purpose of removing all those Excise restrictions which operated 228 vexatiously towards the manufacturer, and were not necessary for the protection of the revenue.
