§ MAJOR LAYARDbegged to ask the right hon. Gentleman the President of the Board of Control when it was likely that the prize money to which the persons who were present at the capture of Khelat and Ghuznee were entitled would be distributed?
§ SIR JOHN HOBHOUSE, in answer to the question of the hon. Gentleman, could inform him that, with respect to the prize money coming from Khelat, it was now in course of distribution. As to the Ghuznee prize money, some difficulty had arisen respecting it, but he had every reason to believe that an order had been given by the Governor General about the month of De- 1340 cember last, in accordance with which that prize money was now either in the course of distribution, or about to be distributed.
§ SIR JOHN HOBHOUSEsaid, that some difficulty had also arisen with respect to the distribution of this prize money, and the prize agents had referred to the home authorities—the Court of Directors and the Board of Control—two questions. Those questions were now under the consideration of the Board of Control. He expected they would be decided by them in a short time; and the moment that was done the money would be distributed.
