HC Deb 16 December 1847 vol 95 cc1231-2

said, that a statement had appeared in the papers to the effect, that the Duke of Wellington had written a letter stating that he had ineffectually urged upon three different Governments the necessity of paying a greater regard to our national defences; and he therefore, seeing the First Lord of the Treasury in his place, would ask, if he had received any communication from the Commander-in-Chief on the subject?
