HC Deb 25 April 1842 vol 62 c1072
Mr. Hume

understood, that a commission had been appointed to inquire into the subject of the revenue. He wished to know, whether there would be any objection to lay a copy of the commission upon the Table?

Sir R. Peel

had no objection whatever to lay a copy of the commission, under which the commissioners were appointed, upon the Table.

Mr. Hume

said, that his object was to ascertain the powers of the commissioners, with a view to comparing those powers with the evidence taken.

.Sir R. Peel

added, that the object of the commission was to ascertain whether any improvement could be made in the collection of the revenue.

Mr. Hume

had supposed, that it was appointed to inquire whether any reduction could be made in the establishments of the country.

Sir R. Peel

observed, that its object was confined to what he had stated.
