HC Deb 15 November 1837 vol 39 c12

From Thursday November 16, to Saturday November 18.

On Thursday, the consent of her Majesty to the choice of Mr. Abercromby as Speaker, was signified with the usual formalities; and he, on the part of the Commons, made the usual claim for all their ancient and undoubted rights and privileges, which were most graciously accorded: while her Majesty declared by the Lords' Commissioners, that she would put the most favourable construction on Mr. Speaker's words and actions. The Speaker, who attended the bar of the House to receive the confirmation, afterwards communicated the same to the House of Commons. From that time till Monday, November 20, the two Houses did no other business than swear in the Members.
