An Hon. Memberwould avail himself of that opportunity to put a question of importance to the right hon. Gentleman, the Vice President of the Board of Trade, relating to the timber trade. It was well known, that a considerable quantity of timber was sent annually from the Baltic to Canada, and which timber was subsequently imported from the latter country into this as Canadian timber. He wished, therefore, to be informed, whether it was the intention of Ministers to put a stop to this proceeding, and also whether any instructions to that effect had been issued?
§ Mr. Poulett Thomsonwas not aware of any intentions in Government to interfere in the matter at present. Certainly no instructions had been issued to the Customs on the subject.
