§ Kate HoeyA new funding package for safety improvements at rugby league, rugby union, cricket and non-league football grounds was announced on 12 April 1999. That package is worth £7.5 million over three years, and the administrative arrangements for its distribution have recently been finalised. A new committee of Sport England's Lottery Panel will shortly take over the work of the Sports Ground Initiative in channelling public funding for safety improvements in these sports.
