Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has to fund by levy the Food Standards Agency from chain stores or stores of over 10,000 square feet; and if he will make a statement. [69535]

Mr. Jon Owen Jones

The Government's proposals for a levy scheme to fund the costs of the Food Standards Agency, including details of which premises would be required to pay, were published for consultation on 27 January. Copies have been placed in the Library of the House.

Following the transfer of powers, this issue will be a matter for the National Assembly.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will estimate the proportion of his Department's current budget which will be transferred to the Food Standards Agency under the proposed Food Standards Bill. [69591]

Mr. Jon Owen Jones

Current expenditure by the Welsh Office in relation to food safety (excluding that included in the local government revenue settlement) amounts to around £0.5 million per annum.

Following the transfer of powers, these issues will be a matter for the National Assembly.
