To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will estimate the level of cash spending on Industry, Enterprise and Training for(a) 1999–2000, (b) 2000–01 and (c) 2001–02; and if he will make a statement. [69241]

Mr. Dewar

[holding answer 4 February 1999]: Planned net provision and estimated expenditure for Industry, Enterprise and Training is £544 million in 1999–2000, £545 million in 2000–01 and £595 million in 2001–02.

From 1 July 1999 this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.

[holding answer 4 February 1999]: Planned provision for 2000–01 and 2001–02 following the Comprehensive Spending Review is shown in the table. Provision for 2002–03 will be decided in the context of the next review of expenditure which will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.
