To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what proposals his Department has to restrict the use, in the United Kingdom, of foreign and EU trucks running 11.5 tonne axles in a 4X2 configuration. [69270]

[holding answer 8 February 1999]: Other than the application of local weight restrictions the Department has no proposals to restrict the use of vehicles running with 11.5 tonne axles in a 4X2 configuration. From 1 January this year vehicles operating with that configuration and at that weight, of all nationalities, are permitted in the UK.
