To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, pursuant to his answer of 2 November 1998,Official Report, column 306, on the punctuality of Great Western train services, if he will provide a breakdown of the total punctuality and cancellation payments made by the company to date between the three categories identified in his answer. Under their incentive regime Great Western Trains pay approximately £125,000 per period up front as a benchmark figure. Depending on performance they then receive money back or pay OPRAF a further sum. The up front payments to the end of September amount to £765,753. They have paid a further £486,000 for cancellations and delays of over 20 minutes. It is not possible to provide a more detailed breakdown because of commercial confidentiality.
