HC Deb 19 November 1998 vol 319 c836W
Mr. Kidney

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what assessment his Department has made of the benefits of a public-private partnership approach to reducing the number of mortgage repossessions. [60718]

Mr. Raynsford

The Government recognise that providing protection for home buyers experiencing difficulty with their mortgage payments is an area where closer co-operation between the Government and lenders and insurers could be fruitful. We are exploring with the Council of Mortgage Lenders and the Association of British Insurers their proposals for closer integration of an improved private sector safety net with the existing state support.
