HC Deb 18 November 1998 vol 319 cc679-80W
Mr. Frank Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how many reports of disease due to exposure to latex have been made under the Reporting of Injury, Disease and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations in each of the past 10 years. [60580]

Mr. Meale

The number of cases of occupational asthma and occupational dermatitis reported as due to latex under the RIDDOR regulations are given in the table. Reporting of occupational disease cases under RIDDOR is incomplete. Dermatitis was designated as a reportable disease with effect from 1 April 1996, and there are therefore no cases reported under RIDDOR before this date. No cases of occupational asthma due to latex were reported for the years from 1 April 1998 to 31 March 1993 inclusive.

Mr. Caborn

My right hon. Friend has intervened in planning applications by giving the article 14 Directions in the table.
