HC Deb 05 November 1998 vol 318 cc640-1W
Mr. Bob Russell

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what procedures exist for him to monitor housing associations; and if he will arrange for the operations of the Springboard Housing Association to be investigated. [58097]

Mr. Raynsford

The Housing Corporation has the statutory responsibility for registering, regulating and funding housing associations, now known as Registered Social Landlords.

Springboard Housing Association is registered with the Housing Corporation. The association, along with all other Registered Social Landlords, is required to meet the Housing Corporation's Performance Standards. Compliance with these standards is reviewed annually. The Corporation investigates where there is evidence of non-compliance and has powers to ensure remedial action by RSLs in cases of serious mismanagement or misconduct.

I have asked the Housing Corporation to contact the hon. Member direct to answer any specific concerns.
