To ask the President of the Board of Trade if she will review the recommendation of the Banner Committee that an advisory standing committee be created with a remit covering broad ethical questions relating to current and future developments in the use of animals.[44069]

As I said in my reply to my hon. Friend's similar question on 15 January 1998,Official Report, column 295, we shall be giving careful consideration to this recommendation in the light of the results of the public consultation exercise on developments in the biosciences, which is now underway.
