HC Deb 11 June 1998 vol 313 c635W
Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions (1) what plans he has to introduce measures for the control of airport noise for airports outside London; [45040]

(2) what assessment he has made of the report on the Review of Airport Noise Legislation prepared for the previous Government; [45041]

(3) what plans he has to introduce noise abatement schemes at or in the neighbourhood of airports. [45043]

Ms Glenda Jackson

We are examining airports policy generally in the context set by the wider Integrated Transport Policy review. I am aware of proposals arising from the review of aircraft noise legislation in 1991–93. The environmental impacts of airports and the case for new legislation are being considered and proposals will be made in due course.

Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what recent representations he has received on(a) noise and (b) safety issues at airports. [45042]

Ms Glenda Jackson

My right hon. Friend and I have received various representations from time to time on noise and safety issues at airports. These tend to focus on current concerns, which include night restrictions and noise limits at the designated London airports, Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted.
