HC Deb 01 June 1998 vol 313 c14W
Mr. Lepper

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions when he expects to receive the Countryside Commission's recommendations on the future management of the South Downs; and when he expects to make a decision on those recommendations. [42900]

Angela Eagle

[holding answer 21 May 1998]: The Countryside Commission intends to present its formal advice to Ministers on its work on the designated landscape areas, including the South Downs, by mid June. We will need to look at the Commission's recommendations very carefully, together with all the information available, before taking any final decisions. We hope to be able to announce our conclusions in the autumn.
