HC Deb 01 June 1998 vol 313 c14W
Mr. Kidney

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what assessment he has made of the investment needs of social housing providers over the next three years for(a) repair and refurbishment and (b) new build. [43197]

Mr. Raynsford

The Department makes annual assessments of local authorities' relative needs for investment through the Housing Investment Programme and the Housing Revenue Account Subsidy system. The need for investment in repair and refurbishment by Registered Social Landlords is a matter for the individual landlords who are largely responsible for meeting these costs from internal resources.

Future investment levels for social housing and the need for new build for social housing providers are being considered as part of the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR). The Government's spending plans arising from the CSR will be announced later in the summer.
