Mr. Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what discussions he has held with the Governments of(a) Jersey and (b) Guernsey about incorporating the European Convention on Human Rights into the law; [42986]

(2) what was the purpose of the visit to Jersey made by the Under-Secretary of State, Lord Williams of Mostyn. [42978]

Lord Williams of Mostyn met the Lieutenant Governor, the Bailiff and other representatives from Jersey on Monday 18 May to discuss with the insular authorities the progress of the Human Rights Bill [Lords] and the action being taken in the Island in response to the Government's decision to incorporate the European Convention on Human Rights into United Kingdom law. He visited Guernsey for a similar discussion on 22 May.
