HC Deb 29 July 1998 vol 317 c281W
22. Mr. Jim Murphy

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development if she will make a statement on the Government's plans for new aid expenditure in southern Africa. [51343]

Clare Short

During my visit to South Africa and Mozambique last week, I saw the impressive progress that has been made. But much more needs to be done to reduce poverty and create opportunities for some of the poorest people in the world. Our programmes with all countries in Southern Africa are being reviewed this year to ensure we implement the commitments of the development White Paper. Proposals for future allocations are being prepared for all the Department for International Development's programmes.
