To ask the Secretary of State for International Development if she will estimate how much additional aid will be committed to sub-Saharan African countries over the next three years as a result of the comprehensive spending review. [51345]

We are working on proposals for the internal allocation of resources over the next three years. Allocations will be finalised for all programmes in the Autumn and will be published in the Departmental Report early in 1999. We expect to increase our allocations to sub-Saharan African countries, to enable us to further our work on the objectives set out in the White Paper.
