§ Dr. Reid[holding answer 17 December 1997]: The annual running costs of an RN vessel depend on the activities it carries out, and the amount of maintenance it undergoes. In approximate terms, the annual running costs of a hunter-killer nuclear powered submarine are some £10 million. These costs include manpower, stores and fuel. They exclude maintenance.
