§ Dr. Reid[holding answer 17 December 1997]: The annual running costs of an RN vessel depends on the activities it carries out, and the amount of maintenance it undergoes. In approximate terms, the annual running costs of a Type 42 destroyer are some £12 million; and for a Sandown class MCMV some £2 million. These costs include manpower, stores and fuel. They exclude maintenance.
