HC Deb 14 December 1998 vol 322 c354W
Mr. Dismore

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what plans he has to uprate the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme tariff for inflation; and if he will make a statement; [63389]

(2) what representations he has received about changes to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme; and if he will make a statement. [63390]

Mr. Boateng

We have received representations and inquiries about changes to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme from a number of bodies, including the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, the Law Society, the Victim Support National Office and local victim support schemes, and the Trades Union Congress. Individual members of the public have also put their views to us. We have been considering these, along with the findings which emerged from the Comprehensive Spending Review. We hope to be able to announce fairly early in the New Year how we intend to take matters forward.
