HC Deb 28 April 1998 vol 311 c87W
Mr. Bercow

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions (1) what progress has been made towards the implementation of the CrossRail project; and if he will make a statement; [39995]

(2) if he will assess the advantages of allowing an application under the Transport and Works Act 1992 for powers to build CrossRail. [40091]

Ms Glenda Jackson

The Government are currently awaiting Railtrack's considered advice on Crossrail, including its possible attractiveness for private sector finance. The project will be reviewed in the light of Railtrack's conclusions, once received, and of the Government's own plans for restructuring transport priorities and responsibilities for London.
