HC Deb 08 April 1998 vol 310 c326W
Mr. Gareth R. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will indicate the arrangements for ministerial responsibilities in his Department for Gibraltar following the recent review of dependent territories. [38771]

Mr. Doug Henderson

As my right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary made clear in his speech to the Dependent Territories Association on 4 February, my noble Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Baroness Symons, is the Minister in the FCO with overall responsibility for the United Kingdom Overseas Territories. As Gibraltar is the only Overseas Territory within the EU, the bulk of the work on Gibraltar will continue to be handled by the European Departments reporting directly to me. However, my noble Friend Baroness Symons will be responsible for generic Overseas Territory issues which affect Gibraltar.

Dr. Marek

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is his policy concerning the situation of Moroccan workers originally invited to Gibraltar to work for the Ministry of Defence and subsequently made redundant. [38535]

Mr. Doug Henderson

All Moroccan workers employed by the Ministry of Defence in Gibraltar and subsequently made redundant were entitled to redundancy packages on the same terms as colleagues recruited in Gibraltar itself.
