HC Deb 20 March 1997 vol 292 c831W
13. Mr. Rendel

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what estimate he has made of the number of motorists who are escaping prosecution for speeding because the police do not have the resources to maintain the existing speed cameras; and what measures he plans to take to remedy this situation. [19794]

Mr. Maclean

I do not consider that any estimate of that kind could be useful or meaningful. The Government have provided substantial and increased resources to the police service and it is for chief officers to decide how to order their priorities.
