To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the number of(a) civilian and (b) military personnel employed by his Department for each year since 1979. [21028]

This is a matter for the chief executive of Defence Analytical Services Agency. I have asked the chief executive to write to the hon. Member.

Letter from P. Altobell to Mr. Frank Field, dated 20 March 1997. I am replying to your question to the Secretary of State for Defence regarding the number of (a) civilian and (b) military personnel employed by his Department for each year since 1979, as this falls within my area of responsibility as Chief Executive of Defence Analytical Services Agency. The figures are presented in the accompanying table. Please refer to the notes appended to the table. I hope you will find this information helpful.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the numbers of civilian personnel employed by his Department who were permanently attached to each of the British Army bases in the United Kingdom and engaged in their administration for each year since 1979; and if he will publish a breakdown for each base. To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the(a) Royal Navy and (b) Army bases and other establishments in Yorkshire and Humberside in April 1992, indicating for each the number of (i) service and (ii) civilian personnel employed (1) at that date and (2) currently; and if he will list the dates of all subsequent closures of those establishments.
