To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when Ministers were first informed of the contents of the briefing note for researchers on "Pesticide Use in the Persian Gulf War" issued by Lieutenant John Graham of the medical services directorate. [19954]

[holding answer 13 March 1997]: MOD Ministers were first made aware of the existence of the briefing note for researchers No. 3 entitled "Pesticide Use in the Persian Gulf War" on 26 September 1996.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when Ministers were first informed of the evidence of Major Christopher Irven of the extent of the use of organophosphate pesticides during the Gulf war. [19956]

[holding answer 13 March 1997]: I am not aware that my Department has received any evidence from Major Christopher Irven concerning the use of organophosphate pesticides during the Gulf war.
