HC Deb 20 March 1997 vol 292 cc802-3W
Mr. Bayley

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many patients were admitted as emergencies with a principal diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction; what percentage of these patients survived 30 days after admission; and what proportion standardised for age and sex survived 30 days after admission in each NHS trust in each of the last three years. [20869]

Mr. Horam

Standard information on hospital admissions by diagnosis is available in the "Hospital Episodes Statistics" publications, copies of which are available in the Library. The additional information required is not available at present in the form requested. However, we are preparing to pilot a set of indicators within the national health service, one of which is in-hospital mortality for acute myocardial infarction. It will not be possible to link hospital admissions with deaths in the community after discharge from hospital for the foreseeable future.
