To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what percentage of school leavers gained GCSE grades A*-C in(a) mathematics, (b) English and (c) science in the most recent year for which figures are available, broken down by gender. [9978]

Information is not collected centrally on grades achieved in individual GCSE subjects by school leavers. Information relating to pupils aged 15—age as at 31 August 1995—or the academic year 1995–96 is contained in the following table.
