HC Deb 16 October 1996 vol 282 c999W
Mr. Mackinlay

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department to what extent the number of police officers dedicated to policing the M25 has varied over the past 10 years, to take account of the changing traffic flows on the motorway; and if he will make a statement. [40331]

Mr. Maclean

[holding answer 14 October 1996]: Allocation of police resources to the M25 is an operational matter for the chief officers concerned. They are represented on a dedicated M25 group within the national motorway conference of the Association of Chief Police Officers Traffic Committee. I understand that resources are used in a flexible way to match them to anticipated demands and that a number of factors are taken into account including the time of day, the season and the sector of the motorway.
