Welsh Office officials are having a series of meetings with representatives of local authorities about the detailed implementation of the nursery voucher scheme.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is his estimate of the number of nursery vouchers likely to be applied for when the scheme begins in 1997; and if he will make a statement. [913]

I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave him on 16 October,Official Report, column 984. It is for parents of eligible four-year-olds to apply for nursery vouchers and they will be alerted to the need to do so by the scheme contractor and other publicity.
