HC Deb 09 May 1996 vol 277 cc219-20W
Mr. Kilfoyle

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment under what criteria Her Majesty's chief inspector of schools is appraised; and what criteria determine the payment to him of a bonus. [28276]

Mr. Robin Squire

The performance of Her Majesty's chief inspector is appraised each year by the permanent secretary for education and employment. This appraisal takes account of the published job description, a copy of which is in the Library, and the priority objectives for that year agreed between the permanent secretary and HMCI at the beginning of the year. HMCI can each year receive a non-consolidated bonus in recognition of his performance against these objectives.
