HC Deb 24 July 1996 vol 282 c407W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the expenditure by his Department on crime prevention, in each of the last five years for which the figures are available; and if he will make a statement. [39077]

Mr. Hague

My Department has no formal policy responsibility for crime prevention, although some expenditure within Welsh Office programmes is for crime prevention activity.

Identifiable Welsh Office expenditure on crime prevention in each of the last three years is listed as follows:

  • 1994–95: £1,083,000
  • 1995–96: £1,729,000
  • 1996–97: £1,832,000

Comparable figures are not available for previous years.

Other schemes funded by the Welsh Office also include elements of crime prevention, but it is impossible to quantify the amounts specific to it.
