To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many Welsh language schemes as set out in the Welsh Language Act 1994 have been(a) submitted to and (b) approved by the Welsh Office; and if he will make a statement. [39081]

This is an operational matter for the Welsh Language Board, established by the Welsh Language Act 1993, the responsibilities of which include the receipt and approval of schemes. I have asked the chief executive to write directly to the hon. Member and will place a copy of his letter in the Library of the House.
