§ Mr. SoamesMy Department has provided financial support for the legal costs of Lance Corporal Clegg at his trial and subsequent appeals. The full costs are not yet known, but are likely to be several hundred thousand pounds. It would not be appropriate for my Department to provide further funds, in the absence of legal proceedings.
