To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what was in(a) cash and (b) real terms the allocation of capital expenditure on local roads and transport in Nottinghamshire in (i) 1995–96 and (ii) 1996–97. [8155]

Nottinghamshire's allocations were as follows:

A large part of the reduction in provision between the two years is accounted for by the reduction in expenditure on a number of major schemes which are coming to an end. The gross approved spending figure for 1996–97 includes £0.15 million of grant unused by the council in earlier years. Figures are available only in cash terms.
