HC Deb 09 January 1996 vol 269 c37W
Mr. Tipping

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has received about the benefits in transport and economic terms of the Rainwerth bypass, Nottinghamshire; when finance will be available for its construction; on what date he expects completion; and if he will make a statement. [8151]

Mr. Norris

Nottinghamshire county council set out in some detail in its transport policies and programme submission for 1996–97 the case for building the Rainwerth bypass. Its submission shows that the council estimates the benefit-to-cost ratio of the scheme to be about 4:1.

This was one of many worthwhile projects that we were unable to fund in the 1996–97 local transport settlement, announced last month. Nottinghamshire will have the opportunity to bid again for resources for the bypass in the 1996 TPP round. I cannot, of course, give any indication at this stage of whether such a bid would be successful.
