HC Deb 09 January 1996 vol 269 c38W
Mrs. Dunwoody

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list those types of rail fare which have not been subject to control by the rail regulator. [7785]

Mr. Watts

The franchising director regulates key commuter and leisure fares all saver tickets, unrestricted standard return tickets where there are no saver tickets, and all standard weekly season tickets. In London, Edinburgh and Cardiff, where there is significant commuting by rail, all the key commuter fares—standard season tickets, standard singles and unrestricted standard returns—will be regulated. Operators have freedom to apply commercial judgment to setting a range of other fares including all first class fares, standard returns for longer distances, super savers, APEX and cheap day returns.
