§ Mr. HagueAt the end of 1993–94, the latest year for which figures are available, energy consumption in my Department was 2 per cent. lower than it was in 1990–91, the base year of the Government's energy efficiency campaign. Within this figure a 21 per cent. cut in the use of fossil fuels was achieved. Carbon dioxide emissions were reduced by 26 per cent.
The Welsh Office has continued to increase its efficiency in energy usage and I anticipate that the 1994–95 figures will show further improvement overall.
