HC Deb 04 May 1995 vol 259 c273W
Dr. Howells

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many marriages between British citizens and non-British, non-EU citizens were reported as bogus to the Registrar-General by individual registrars in each year since 1989. [21816]

Mr. Sackville

Superintendent registrars are instructed to send a report to the Registrar-General where they have good reason to suspect that a proposed marriage of a person from abroad has been arranged for the sole purpose of evading statutory immigration controls. The number of reports received from individual superintendent registrars since 1989 will be placed in the Library. Details of reports received of marriages between British citizens and non-British, non-EU citizens is not kept separately and could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
