HC Deb 04 May 1995 vol 259 cc273-4W
Mr. Alan Howarth

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what estimates she makes of the numbers of married people of each sex who are contributing(a) all or (b) part of their income from occupational pensions to

examination of the Royal College of Surgeons to spend a part of their training programme in an accident and emergency department, although it is strongly recommended that they do so. Consultation on changes to training requirements are a matter for the relevant royal college.

We have consistently increased the number of junior doctors in recent years, both in accident and emergency medicine and in other specialties. The decision by some trainees, because of the change in the fellowship examination, not to opt to work in accident and emergency departments has also added to the supply of junior doctors in other specialties.
