HC Deb 19 December 1995 vol 268 cc1040-1W
Mr. Chidgey

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what discussions he has held on the issue of a trans-European agreement on low-volume type-approval for motor cars with his European counterparts. [6602]

Mr. Watts

Officials have held discussions with the type-approval authorities of Germany. France, Italy, Spain. the Netherlands. Belgium and Luxembourg with a view to obtaining their agreement to accept vehicles type-approved to the UK low-volume scheme. So far, one vehicle type has been accepted in full by Germany and Italy and partially by France, Spain, Belgium and Luxembourg, the latter group of countries requiring some additional tests. We have also pursued the issue of a trans-European agreement at several meetings chaired by the European Commission.
