HC Deb 19 December 1995 vol 268 c1041W
Mr. Gunnell

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what will be the saving made to Railtrack in 1996–97 from the cancellation of free parking passes to hon. Members; and what is his estimate of the costs in 1995–96 of providing such passes. [6599]

Mr. Watts

The present free car parking passes are provided by the British Railways Board, which does not attribute a cost to the provision of the passes. The small administrative cost of issuing individual passes is not separately identified by the British Railways Board.

When the present passes issued by British Rail expire on 1 June 1996 it will be for the train operating companies, or Railtrack in the case of those stations owned and managed by it, to decide whether to provide free car parking passes for hon. Members.
